Steppin Out celebrates 22 years on Air, as it relaunches on Frisk Groove
Steppin Out, the long-running specialist music show blending soul, disco, motown and funky house, marks 22 years on air this March with a major relaunch on Frisk Groove, on Friday 6th March, 2026.
Originally launched in 2004 and hosted by North East DJ Keith Martin, Steppin Out has built a consistent and loyal following over more than two decades. The programme focuses on "music for the soul”, seamlessly connecting classic tracks from the 1950s through to contemporary releases, while maintaining a clear identity rooted in groove-driven sounds.
To mark its 22nd anniversary, the show becomes the flagship programme on Frisk Groove, sister station to Frisk Radio. As part of the relaunch, Steppin Out will expand to a three-hour format and will broadcast every Friday from 6pm.
The move positions the show at the centre of Frisk Groove’s schedule, reinforcing the station’s commitment to curated, genre-led programming and bringing in established presenter talent.
Danny Coucill, Station Manager, said:
“It’s a real testament to Keith and the music he plays that the show has endured over the years. The music is timeless and the audience are passionate. I’m looking forward to seeing how the show continues to grow as part of Frisk Groove’s future.”
With over two decades of heritage and a clearly defined musical identity, Steppin Out enters its next chapter with an extended runtime, a prime Friday evening slot, and a renewed platform to reach audiences who value classic soul influences alongside modern groove-led sounds.
