From Spijkenisse to the world
Nick Leonardus Van de Wall, known professionally as Afrojack, was born in Spijkenisse, South Holland, to a Dutch mother and Surinamese father. He began producing music at age 11 and started DJing at local clubs at 14. In 2007, he released his first track under the Afrojack name. What started in a small Dutch town would eventually reshape electronic music. Today, he runs Wall Recordings, his independent label, whilst collaborating with some of the world's biggest artists. The trajectory is remarkable: from local clubs to Grammy nominations to shaping global pop music.
How Afrojack makes records
Afrojack specialises in progressive house, electro house, and mainstream EDM. His production combines crisp synths, driving basslines, and infectious hooks designed for both radio and dancefloors. His work as a songwriter and producer earned him a Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording in 2011, along with further nominations in the dance and rap categories. "Give Me Everything" (2011), co-written and produced with Pitbull, Ne-Yo, and Nayer, reached number 1 on the Hot 100 and became one of his most celebrated productions. "Take Over Control" with Eva Simons achieved platinum status and spent 20 weeks on the Hot 100, peaking at number 41. His production work on David Guetta's "Hey Mama" (featuring Nicki Minaj and Bebe Rexha) demonstrated his ability to craft songs for mainstream audiences.

Beyond his own releases, Afrojack shaped hits for other artists. His production credits span remixes and original compositions across multiple genres. He understands that the best records come from partnerships. Recent collaborations like "Awake Tonight" with David Guetta and Sia (2026) and "Our Time" with Martin Garrix and David Guetta show his ongoing relevance in contemporary EDM and progressive house.
